Who This Is For

Built for People Who Owe in More Than One State

If any of these sound familiar, this service was built for your situation.

You moved states mid-year

A relocation means part-year residency in two states, and the income has to be split between them correctly.

You work remotely

Your employer is in one state and you live in another, which can create a filing obligation in both.

You earn income in several states

Consulting, rental property, or K-1 income sourced to multiple states each carry their own return.

You relocated for work

You are not sure which state you are now a resident of, or where your income should be taxed.

You received a state notice

A state you did not file in says you owe, often because income was sourced there automatically.

You own property across state lines

Out-of-state rentals or a business operating in several states create nexus and filing duties.

How Jason Helps

One CPA Coordinating Every State

Not separate preparers in each state guessing at the others. One licensed professional who sees the whole picture and files it consistently.

Residency determined correctly

Domicile and statutory-residency rules decide where you are taxed as a resident. We get that determination right before anything is filed.

Income apportioned accurately

Wages, business income, and investment income are sourced to the proper state so each return reports the right amount.

Double taxation avoided

We apply the credit for taxes paid to other states so the same dollar is not taxed twice.

Flat fee, quoted upfront

One fixed price after a free consultation. No hourly meter, and you approve the number before any work starts.

Clarifications

Multi-State Tax Questions, Answered

Do I have to file in more than one state if I work remotely?
Often, yes. If you live in one state and your employer is in another, both states may have a claim on that income. We determine exactly where you must file and apply any credits so you are not taxed twice.
Will I be taxed twice on the same income?
Generally no, when the returns are prepared correctly. Most states give a credit for taxes paid to another state on the same income. We calculate and apply that credit so the same dollar is taxed once.
I moved mid-year. Which states do I file in?
Usually a part-year resident return in each state, splitting your income by the period you lived there. We determine your change of domicile and allocate income to the correct state.
What is the convenience of the employer rule?
A few states tax remote workers as if they worked at the employer location, even when they did not. We check whether this rule applies to you and file accordingly.
I got a notice from a state I never lived in. What should I do?
Send it to us. These notices usually come from income sourced to that state, such as a K-1 or property. We review the notice, file what is actually owed, and respond on your behalf.
How much does a multi-state return cost?
You get one flat fee, quoted after a free consultation, before any work begins. The price reflects the number of states and the complexity of your income.
